And you have yourself the best game created around community!
Alternativa3D 7.6 is endless times faster than Away3D for creating tile base cities like tankionline.
Using blender 2.56 and exporting pure AS3 code (thanks david jones) gave me the best developer experience for creating my simple experience. And guess what, all for free!
Unity3D is the name for another game engine, developed by another company for their own games. The only place Unity3D is used is in Unity Technologies game IDE website domain name. So please use the name Unity 4 and not Unity3D 4.

There seem to be a CPU fallback-renderer in molehill API called SwiftShader. That CPU renderer is used when GPU is not available through DirectX or OpenGL. So i think you don't need to switch back to old FP10 versions. Just using Alternativa 8.5 would serve us as a CPU renderer in case GPU is not available. And the performance achieved through using v8.5 using molehill software emulator, is of course better than FP10 based 3D engines.
For creating this small game i used a small python script to export a xml file based on the models in the scene.
I found using something like Blender to create a exporter upon, was easier than creating my own map making tool!
My script would support exporting a xml file containing the properties of the physics cubes, way-points, swan points and 3d models. Like this:

I had the 3D models already exported into AS code using davidejones' Blender exporter. And i could populate my scene in flash with these xml informations. This is the blender file.


But your idea of creating a full featured standalone map making tool, like tankionline map editor tool, would be really interesting!

I believe you could divide your map into many tiles. Like the blender file i have sent. Then you could add some occlusion culling mechanism.
But first thing fist, might be to remove all those extra triangles in the floor!

I suppose you have problem with tankionline, right?

If you live in specific countries like Iran, those problems can only be solved by connecting through a VPN connection.
